AAC Support in Geelong: Kids+ AAConnect Program

TM

Communication is a fundamental human right, and we believe every child deserves a voice. Our team has advanced knowledge, skills, and resources in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), helping children in Geelong and beyond find the best ways to express themselves, connect with others, and participate fully in life.

What is AAC?

AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. It supports people to communicate using methods in addition to, or instead of, speech. This might include sign language, body movements and gestures, picture symbol boards, communication books, or high-tech devices such as tablets and computers. AAC is not a last resort. It is a powerful tool that empowers children to share their needs, make choices, build relationships, and engage at school, in the workplace, and in their community.

The Kids+ AAConnect Program

At Kids+, we've developed AAConnect: a dedicated suite of programs designed to support AAC users of all abilities and their families. Our experienced team takes the time to explore the many ways your child communicates and provides tailored strategies, tools, and equipment to expand and enhance their communication skills.

The AAConnect program includes a range of specialised supports such as online sessions, social groups like AAC Chatters, sibling support, and programs specifically designed for young adults. It's a whole-community approach to communication, backed by funding from the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

Families who have been part of the AAConnect program describe transformative moments, like hearing their child say "I love you" through their AAC device for the very first time.

The Kids+ AAConnect Program is supported by funding from the Australian Government, Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.
