Kids+ AAC Young Adults Group: Connection in Community

AAC Young Adults Group — Communication, Connection & Independence

Kids+ Foundation's AAC Young Adults Group is a welcoming, purposeful program designed specifically for young adults who use AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). Meeting every Friday morning, this group creates a safe and supportive space for young adults to develop skills, build confidence, and connect with peers who share similar communication journeys.

A Program Built Around What Matters Most

The AAC Young Adults Group goes beyond communication skills alone. The program takes a holistic approach, focusing on four key areas that are essential to living a full and independent life:

  • Social Communication — building confidence in everyday interactions and developing meaningful connections with others

  • Health and Wellbeing — exploring topics and strategies that support a healthy, balanced lifestyle

  • Advocacy — developing the skills and confidence to speak up, make choices, and have a voice in decisions that matter

  • Independence — working towards greater autonomy in day-to-day life and the community

Who Is It For?

This group is designed for young adults who use AAC, whether that's a speech-generating device, communication board, or app-based system. It's a place to grow, be heard, and feel genuinely included alongside others who understand the AAC experience.

Facilitated by the Kids+ Team

The AAC Young Adults Group is facilitated by the Kids+ Speech Pathology Team alongside Allied Health Assistant Sharnie Russell. Together, they bring expertise, warmth, and a genuine commitment to helping every participant thrive.

Sessions run every Friday morning at the Kids+ centre, providing a consistent, regular touchpoint for young adults to look forward to each week.
