Surf Ed: Inclusive Beach and Water Safety Program for Kids
Surf Ed at Kids+
Sun, sand, surf, and smiles — the Kids+ Surf Ed program is one of our most loved programs, and it's not hard to see why. Since 2018, Surf Ed has been giving children and young people with disability the chance to experience the beach in a way that feels safe, supported, and genuinely fun. Run each January in partnership with the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club, this four-day NDIS-funded program consistently books out weeks in advance.
What is Surf Ed?
Surf Ed is a beach and water education program designed specifically for children and young adults with disability. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Fisherman’s Beach, Torquay, the program combines water safety education with hands-on ocean experiences in a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment. The goal is simple: help every participant feel confident, capable, and joyful in and around the water.
What Are The Benefits?
Each day of the program is designed to build water confidence and skills, develop water safety awareness, encourage socialisation and connection with peers, and create an opportunity to simply enjoy the beach — something that can feel out of reach for many families without the right support around them.
Local Partnerships
The program's success is deeply tied to the incredible support of the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club and Torquay Marine Rescue, who provide hands-on assistance and equipment to ensure every child can participate safely and joyfully. Their involvement is what makes Surf Ed truly special.
