Meet Occupational Therapist, Kirsten!

We love our team at Kids Plus Foundation, so we're excited to share a little bit more about the people who make the place what it is.Read on to get to know our Occupational Therapist Kirsten a little bit better! What made you decide to pursue this line of work? My Uncle Ronnie (an all-round legend with Down Syndrome) and Oma (who cared for Ronnie until age 90) are both a huge inspiration for me becoming an Occupational Therapist. And what to do you love about it? I love working with people to help them achieve skills that are key in everyday life.I am young at heart, and LOVE making sessions fun and joyful! Can you please tell us a bit about your role at Kids Plus and some of the things you look after:I am one of the Occupational Therapists, and I work with a range of infants to young adults and their families. Key parts of my role involve supporting young people to achieve their potential in a range of daily activities they want and need to do across home, kinder, school or community environments.I feel very privileged to work on key skills such as play and leisure, self-care (such as dressing, grooming, self-feeding), hand function, and vision.I am also passionate about young people accessing and participating across all environments- which may involve organising specialised equipment or modifications.I love the moments of shared joy when a child absolutely smashes their goals.I feel humbled and grateful to work so closely with families during very meaningful life stages. What do you enjoy doing on weekends?I’ve just moved to the region, so I love exploring new hiking trails and beaches. Throw in a good book and some tasty grub, and I’m pretty happy! What's something people wouldn't know about you?I love travelling… and one of my favourite things to do in a new country is browse the local supermarket for weird and wonderful foods! How would your friends describe you in three words?Compassionate, Loyal, DrivenMeet some of our other team members here.
