Assistive Technology
At Kids+, we believe that every child and young person deserves the tools and opportunities to engage fully in the activities that matter most to them. Assistive Technology (AT) can help make this possible.
Our experienced team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech pathologists collaborates with children, families, and support networks to assess, recommend, and prescribe equipment that supports mobility, communication, daily living, and play. This support can take place at our center, at home, or in the community.
Our approach is evidence-based, child-centered, and goal-oriented. We ensure that every recommendation is tailored to your child’s unique needs, goals, and family priorities, continually reviewing our strategies as circumstances change.
What is Assistive Technology?
Assistive technology (AT) refers to any device, tool, software, or equipment used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of people with disabilities. These technologies are designed to assist in performing tasks that may be challenging due to additional physical, sensory, cognitive, or communication requirements.
AT can range from simple, low-tech solutions to complex, high-tech devices, and it aims to promote independence, accessibility, and inclusion for people with disabilities. Examples of AT include, wheelchairs, AAC devices, toileting supports and bicycles.
What we do
We specialise in the assessment, prescription and on-going review of Assistive Technology, including:
Mobility aids – wheelchairs, walkers, and gait trainers
Postural supports – seating systems, standing frames, and positioning aids
Daily living equipment – sleeping, bathing, toileting, and feeding supports
Communication devices – switches, mounts, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems
Environmental access – technology that supports independence in home, school, and community settings
Recreational Equipment – bikes, trikes and frame runners as well as gaming and leisure equipment
At Kids+ we have significant experience in providing written applications or support letters to request funding for Assistive Technology.
