Willow’s Walkers

Meet Willow

Willow is 3 and a half years old and has asymmetrical quadriplegia cerebral palsy. Quadriplegia means all her four limbs are affected. Asymmetrical means it's not equal, her left hand side is more impacted than her right.

Willow’s Story

Willow was born via an emergency C-section due to reduced fetal movement. When Willow was born she had trouble breathing and required extra oxygen for support. Once she was able to breathe on her own, she started having seizures resulting in HIE (a form of brain damage). Fortunately for Willow and her family, the Royal Flying Doctors were able to transport her to the Royal Women's in Melbourne where they were able to commence the cooling process to reduce swelling and any further damage to her brain. Willow spent a total of 31 days in hospital.

Early Intervention

With an early diagnosis of cerebral palsy, Willow has been involved in various therapies since returning home from hospital. She began with regular physic and speech and is now also seeing an OT.

To further support her development, Willow has been to intensive therapy sessions at Kids+. Thankfully we have seen amazing growth in Willow thanks to this early intervention.

Our Background & Mission

Over the past few years our family and friends have participated in STEPtember raising much needed awareness and funds for Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

We are now creating our very own fundraiser in Willow's Walkers.

We want to continue to raise awareness and understanding of cerebraI palsy. We know first hand how limited our resources are living in a rural town. The wait lists to see therapists, the travel involved to see specialists and having a place to meet other families going through a similar experience are inadequate and insufficient.

Funds raised will be put towards sourcing therapist to travel to Mildura to provide services to our kids with disabilities. We also aim to create a sense of community for the families requiring this level of support.
