Siblings Group
Because every child in the family deserves to feel seen.
When a child has a disability or developmental difference, their brothers and sisters are on the journey too. Siblings share the same home, the same family, and often the same big feelings — but their experience is uniquely their own.
That's why Kids+ runs a dedicated Siblings Group. It's a space created just for them.
We designed our own Siblings Group t-shirts that we will wear at the Surf Coast Trek!
Growing up alongside a brother or sister with a disability brings incredible moments of love, loyalty and connection. It can also bring confusion, worry, frustration, and sometimes loneliness — especially when it can feel like there's no one who quite understands.
Research tells us that siblings of children with disabilities are more likely to experience anxiety, emotional difficulties, and a sense that their own needs come second. They may struggle to explain their family to friends, feel unsure how to talk about their feelings at home, or simply carry a lot quietly on their own.
The Kids+ Siblings Group gives these children the chance to breathe, connect, and be themselves — with other kids who just get it.
Why siblings need their own space
What happens in the group?
Our Siblings Group is a fun, supportive, and age-appropriate program where children can:
Connect with peers who share similar family experiences
Explore their feelings through play, creative activities, and conversation
Build resilience and coping strategies in a safe, nurturing environment
Ask the questions they might not feel comfortable asking at home
Simply have fun and feel celebrated for who they are
Sessions are facilitated by Alice Shaw, Kids+ Support Coordinator, and Sally Jones, Kids+ Social Worker.
